Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 11, 2026 · Effective immediately
Your privacy matters. Knowledge Base is built on the principle that your knowledge belongs to you. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Data We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account (via Clerk), we collect your email address, display name, and authentication credentials. This information is managed by Clerk and used solely for authentication and account management.
Usage Metrics
We collect anonymous usage metrics to improve the Service: source count, compilation count, feature usage frequency, and performance data. These metrics are aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual users or reconstruct your knowledge base content.
Device Information
We collect basic device and browser information (browser type, operating system, screen resolution) to ensure compatibility and improve the user experience. We do not collect or store IP addresses for tracking purposes.
2. Your Knowledge Base Content
Content you ingest, the wiki pages generated, query answers, and all associated metadata remain yours. This is a core principle, not a marketing statement:
- We do not read your personal knowledge base content for any purpose other than providing the Service to you
- We do not sell or share your content with third parties
- We do not use your content for training AI models, advertising, or analytics
- We do not analyze your content to build user profiles or behavioral models
3. LLM Processing
Content is processed through LLM providers for knowledge compilation (summarization, entity extraction, cross-referencing). The specific LLM provider is configurable in your Settings:
- Cloud providers(OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.): Content is sent to the provider’s API for processing. We do not store prompts or responses beyond what is necessary for your wiki. Check each provider’s data policy for their retention practices.
- Local providers (Ollama, llama.cpp): Content is processed entirely on your device. Nothing leaves your machine. This is the most private option.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in an isolated per-user environment. Each user has a dedicated SQLite database and file storage. We employ the following security measures:
- Encryption at rest for all stored data
- Encrypted TLS connections for all data in transit
- Per-user isolation — no shared database tables or file namespaces
- Regular automated backups (database: continuous; files: every 15 minutes)
- Self-hosted option available for users who want full control over data residency
5. Data Export & Deletion
You can export your entire knowledge base at any time in standard Markdown format (Obsidian-compatible) through the Settings page. The export includes all source pages, concept pages, entity pages, query answers, and metadata.
You can request complete data deletion at any time through the Settings page or by contacting us. Upon deletion:
- All wiki pages and raw source files are permanently erased
- Your database (metadata, search index) is destroyed
- Backup copies are purged within 30 days
- Account information is removed from Clerk
6. Cookies & Tracking
We use essential cookies only for authentication session management (via Clerk). We do not use:
- Tracking cookies or advertising pixels
- Third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel)
- Fingerprinting or cross-site tracking
- Social media tracking widgets
7. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Clerk— Authentication and user management. See Clerk’s Privacy Policy.
- LLM Providers— OpenAI, Anthropic, or your chosen provider. Content is sent for processing per your configuration.
- Source Integrations— Notion, RSS, Hacker News, Reddit, YouTube, etc. Each integration only accesses data you explicitly authorize and connect.
8. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
9. International Data Transfers
If you use the Service from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international data transfers.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notification at least 14 days before taking effect. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
11. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access and receive a copy of your personal data
- Correct inaccurate personal data
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Data portability (export in machine-readable format)
- Withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these rights, use the Settings page or contact us at the address below.
12. Contact
For privacy-related questions, concerns, or data requests, contact us at privacy@knowledgebase.dev.
